During VMworld VMware launched a Software Defined Data Center community, where architects could go for a few drinks and discuss all things SDDC. This was a really cool idea, and allowed people to ask questions about the content they had seen during the course of VMworld. Now that VMworld is over, people have been asking “where do we go for more information? Who can we bounce ideas off? Who can we speak too?” The answer is: VMware SDDC Architects Group VMware has recently launched a LinkedIN group titled “VMware SDDC Architects” where everyone who is interested in SDDC Architecture can go for discussions and further information. VMware Virtual SAN Scalability Limits – VSAN
I have had a few questions off people recently asking what are the scalability limits of the new VMware Virtual SAN. I thought I would post a quick table to show these. Description Limit Maximum number of disk stripes 12 Maximum number of failures tolerated 3 No of VSAN hosts per Cluster 8 Max number of IOps 120,000 Max number of Parallel vMotion per VSAN cluster 8 Max number of Parallel SvMotion per VSAN cluster 2 Max number of VMs per host 100 Max number of VMs per (evenly distrubted) VSAN cluster 800 Max number of disk groups per host 5 Max number of hard disks per disk group 6 Hopefully by providing these numbers, if you are thinking about implementing VMware Virtual SAN in your environments it will help you with the design. VMware vCloud Director 5.5 new features
With the announcement of VMware vCloud Director 5.5 I thought it would be a good idea to list the new features that are included in vCloud Director 5.5. I would like to thank my colleague Ananda Kammampati for producing this extensive list. vCloud Director 5.5 new features Official support for Virtual Appliance form factor (but still not in production) Catalog Sharing and Synchronizing Versioning support vApp Provisioning and Lifecycle Support for cloning of running vApps with memory state Added OVF import/export features VCD 5.5 Virtual Appliance The Virtual appliance form factor of VCD 5.5 is now officially supported, however full support does not mean it is available for deployment in Production environments. VMworld 2013 recap – Day 1
The day began with meeting up with Aidan Dalgleish and Kamau Wanguhu at the Hilton lobby, with us putting last minute changes to our slide deck for session VSVC7371. Well mainly it was Aidan being the OCD expert he is putting last minute changes to slide deck. We went straight to the speaker lounge and updated the presentation. Keynote After grabbing breakfast it was time to head to the keynote. This was going to be the first keynote Pat Gelsinger presented. I enjoyed this keynote, it was a different angle to what we have seen in the past from Paul Maritz, Pat poked fun at himself, showing off pictures of him as a dragon slayer among others.
