New role at VMware – Senior Technologist
I have now been at VMware for nearly seven years, and I still love every day. I am pleased to announce that I am taking on a new role at VMware – I am joining the Cloud Provider Services Business Unit also known as vCloud Air Network as a Senior Technologist. This is a new and exciting time for me. Having spent the last three years working in VMware’s vCloud Air public cloud as the lead evangelist, I now have the opportunity to expand the horizons and work with VMware’s 4000+ service providers around the globe while continuing in the cloud area. In my new role the focus is to provide guidance into the core product teams, with direction on strategy and go-to-market initiatives. Having spent the past seven years at VMware working in the cloud area, this is an amazing opportunity for me personally. I will continue as an evangelist and […]

This blog has been hacked by @vS0ciety
This site hasn’t really been hacked, it is however a great video to watch and is designed to promote the VMworld VMware Code Hackathon in Barcelona 2016 VMWORLD VMWARE CODE HACKATHON TO HIT BARCELONA 2016 Alan Renouf has written an indepth blog article on this project. If your interested follow this link and sign up today: https://code.vmware.com/2016/09/14/vmworld-vmware-code-hackathon-hit-barcelona-2016/ VMworld USA was the Hackathon, basically 5 teams of developers and scripters, who had mainly never met each other before were formed and took part in a Hackathon organized by myself, William Lam and the VMware Code team. These dedicated coders gave up free vendor meals and alcohol (OK well maybe we provided both as well) to essentially come code with us on 5 Intel NUC units we had pre-built with vCenter/ESX and VSAN. The people who were involved ranged from people just learning to coding ninjas and API experts, that’s what I […]

Leverage the cloud for a Veeam backup repository
Recently I gave a presentation at VMworld alongside Rick Vanover where we discussed how you can leverage the cloud for backup image storage. So on that topic, I wanted to provide some information on how you can leverage vCloud Air to provide you with an endpoint for Veeam backups. First let’s take a high level look at what Veeam has to offer. Veeam uses a backup appliance, much in the same way a number of other vendors do. This appliance essentially takes snapshots of virtual machines running either on vSphere or Hyper-V. Once it has these snapshot images, it moves them off to an external storage area, whether it be a physical SAN or virtual storage in the cloud. It’s a very simple, but elegant solution that a number of VMware and Microsoft IT shops have deployed. One of the great lesser known features of Veeam is Cloud Gateway. Essentially […]

VMware vCloud Air VMworld sessions available
VMware vCloud Air VMworld sessions available Now that VMworld has passed, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share the presentations that I gave. VMworld was incredibily busy time again this year, and the interest in VMwares’ vCloud Air continues to grow. Throughtout my time presenting and attending VMworld, it is interesting to see how the cloud interest has grown over the past 7 years. People are no longer only interested in private clouds, they also want to leverage the public cloud to help ease the pressures on the current on-premises infrastructure. One of my sessions talked exactly about that, the journey to cloud, and how there is a lot of similarities between the virtualization journey and the cloud journey. This session was my particular favourite to present this year. I was honoured to be asked to present the vCloud Air Spotlight session. You can watch the full […]
